What Is a PRP Injection?
Hair loss is often a sign of aging. Yet, it can also occur due to medication changes or simply a drop in hormones such as estrogen loss in women and testosterone loss in men.
Hair loss is also common, affecting millions of people worldwide. To help combat hair loss and take your confidence back, there are therapies available such as PRP hair rejuvenation.
What Is PRP Hair Rejuvenation Therapy?
The goal of any hair loss therapy is to rejuvenate or restart hair growth. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is used to trigger natural hair growth by increasing blood supply to the hair follicle. As a result, the thickness of the hair shaft is increased and strengthened.
Does It Truly Work for Hair Loss?
A recent study completed in 2019 compared two groups of people using hair treatments for six consecutive months. One group used Rogaine while the other used PRP injections. The study found that PRP performed much better, resulting in decreased bald spots and increased hair thickness.
Another study, completed in 2015, found that of the people receiving PRP injections every 2-3 weeks for 3 months, each experienced increased hair thickness and strength in the hair root.
When combined with other hair loss therapies such as medications, many of our patients have experienced increased hair growth.
Is PRP Therapy Safe?
Yes, PRP hair rejuvenation therapy is safe. Most patients don’t experience any pain or discomfort during their treatment. After the therapy is completed, you may experience some redness or general soreness due to the nature of the procedure. You might also see some mild swelling. All symptoms should disappear within 24-48 hours.
How Does PRP Hair Rejuvenation Therapy Work?
PRP is made from the platelet-rich protein in your own blood. To make it, we draw your blood and centrifuge it to remove the red blood cells. Once separated, we inject the plasma into your scalp using a syringe. We’ll make sure the plasma goes to the specific areas that require growth, such as the crown or around both of your temples.
We recommend patients go through three PRP sessions, spaced around 4-6 weeks apart. You should start to see results within that time frame.
