How Long Do Facial Fillers Last?
It’s natural for our faces to form wrinkles and lose volume as we age. In that case, you may turn to facial fillers to restore your youthful appearance and achieve supple skin.
Done by licensed physicians, this minimally-invasive procedure helps to add fullness to your lips, cheeks and chin. But how long do facial fillers last? Let’s find out what to expect, and how you can support your filler treatment.
How Long Do Lip Fillers Last?
Most lip filler treatments last for 12 to 18 months. The duration of lip fillers depends on the type of filler used as well as your age, genetics, metabolism and lifestyle habits.
At Balance Hormone, we use FDA-approved Juvederm® Volbella™ XC, which is an injectable gel. Patients tend to see immediate results after a single injection, and those results typically last for one year.
How Long Do Cheek and Chin Fillers Last?
Cheek and chin fillers can last from 12 to 24 months, depending on the type of filler, your age, genetics and daily habits.
At Balance Hormone, we use an injectable gel called Juvederm® Voluma™ XC to improve the volume in your face. For facial wrinkles and skin folds that need more smoothing, we use the injectable gel Juvederm® Vollure™ XC. This filler can last up to one year with proper care.
How to Help Your Facial Fillers Last Longer
Over time, your body breaks down and metabolizes your injectables, but the amount of time it takes will differ for everyone. As we mentioned before, your age, genetic factors and metabolism will all impact how long your fillers last.
While the breakdown of your fillers is a natural process, there are things you can do to make them last longer:
- Avoid touch and pressure: For at least 24 hours after your treatment, avoid touching the area or applying pressure. Don’t exfoliate or sleep on your face. In some cases, your physician may have you gently massage the area or apply an ice pack. Always follow their directions after any treatment.
- Hydrate: Drinking enough water will help maintain your injections. Plus, it’s good for overall skin health. Be sure to hydrate your skin topically regularly. Aim for a quality moisturizer recommended by your physician.
- Protect your skin: UV radiation can speed up your skin’s aging process and break down the hyaluronic acid in your fillers. Always use sunscreen, wear protective clothing such as hats and visors, and stay in the shade when you can.
- Schedule regular maintenance: If you love your smoother-looking skin, you’ll most likely want to make it last. Consult with your physician about regular upkeep and when you’ll need to schedule follow-up appointments.
