ANSWERS TO YOUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT LIP FILLERS

Unwanted lines and wrinkles on and around your lips can take a toll on your confidence. Lip fillers performed by the team at Balance Hormone Center can help you achieve youthful, silky smooth lips quickly.

WHAT ARE LIP FILLERS?

Lip fillers are dermal fillers that give the lips more shape, structure and volume. Most of the products we use contain hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body that helps increase volume in the lips.

HOW DO LIP FILLERS WORK?

The filler is injected under the skin using a syringe. Instantly, the substance, typically containing hyaluronic acid, starts to plump and volumize the area of the injection, reducing lines and wrinkles. Over time, the natural substance is broken down into the body and completely absorbed.

ARE LIP FILLERS SAFE?

Yes, lip fillers are very safe. By using hyaluronic acid, they’re much safer than collagen or fat transplanted into the lips, a practice we wouldn’t recommend.

Like any aesthetic procedure, you may experience some side effects such as localized swelling and light bleeding from the injection site. These symptoms should disappear within a couple of days.

HOW MUCH ARE LIP FILLERS?

Our lip fillers cost between $400 and $600 per syringe, depending on the product used. Most of our patients require only one syringe for each lip filler treatment.

HOW LONG DO LIP FILLERS LAST?

Although they’re not permanent, most lip fillers do last between six and twelve months. The length of time depends on many factors, including the product used, the treatment completed and your skin type.

DO LIP FILLERS HURT?

We use an injection to numb your lips first. During this injection, you may experience some discomfort due to the syringe. Yet, once numb, you’ll only feel a little prick and slight pressure. After the filler is injected, you may feel a dull throbbing, but it shouldn’t be intense nor painful.

WHAT IS THE BEST LIP FILLER?

The most common products used for lip injections include Juvéderm®Belotero Balance® and Restylane®. Currently, we use both Belotero Balance® and Restylane® in the office.

HOW DO I REDUCE SWELLING AFTER LIP FILLERS? HOW MUCH SWELLING IS NORMAL?

You should expect some minor swelling after your treatment for the following few days. Yet, you can reduce this normal swelling by applying ice packs to the treatment area.

If you experience any redness, itching or other abnormal symptoms, please reach out to us. Although rare, allergic reactions do occur.

HOW CAN I MAKE LIP FILLERS LAST LONGER?

The best way to lengthen and enhance the filler’s effects is to undergo maintenance treatments before your results completely wear off. Also, be sure to treat your lips with care. Taking care of the skin on and around your lips will improve your results.

CAN YOU GET LIP FILLERS WHILE PREGNANT?

Although lip fillers are completely safe, it’s not advisable to have lip injections while pregnant. There haven’t yet been studies to confirm the safety of these products during pregnancy, so you should avoid their use.

WHAT SHOULDN’T I DO AFTER GETTING LIP FILLERS?

We recommend avoiding exercise for 24 hours. Heat increases blood flow which may also increase swelling. Your injector will also tell you whether or not to massage your lips and complete post-care will be given following your procedure.
